Johns Creek Karate Teaches Respect - Choe's HapKiDo Karate Suwanee

Martial Arts Teacher Respect: Code of Conduct Tips

When you are just starting to learn martial arts in Suwanee GA the formality and bowing might be a bit difficult to get accustomed to, but learning about the reasons may help it make more sense. Most of the martial arts, such as Karate or HapKiDo, originated in the east and are therefore riddled with eastern culture of respect. Once you have been training in martial arts for a period of time these actions may become second nature and the respect for the master and your peers will increase accordingly. For the beginning though, especially in kids Karate, it is important just to follow along. Here are a few tips on the key areas to help you understand the reasons behind the formal respect in Karate and other martial arts.

Addressing the Karate Instructor Correctly

One of the first things that you will learn is how to address your teacher or Instructor correctly, which is all about making sure that you respect the amount of work that they have put into becoming as good as they are to teach you. On the mats it is important to only refer to them as Instructor, Sir or Ma'am out of respect and to show them that you accept them as your teacher. They are not your peers on the mat, and showing them this respect will help you to gain theirs as well.

Showing Respect

The respect you learn in Karate shouldn’t stop with your speech, and demonstrating respect when you are practicing martial arts with your body language and physical interactions is the next step. It is important that you keep the time on the mat reserved for training and refrain from physically engaging with your Instructor outside of demonstrations. A pat on the back is fine off the mat, but once on the mat you are encouraged to stand up straight and be attentive so that you can learn and show respect while training martial arts. Pay attention when your Karate Instructor is demonstrating a new technique. Overall you are there to learn from your Instructors and showing respect in the way you hold yourself and how much attention you give them will go a long way.

Entering and leaving a class

For overall respect of your Instructor’s time in Karate or any other martial arts training, it is important to arrive on time or even early for your class. Learning this as children in Kids Karate, is a great way to foster the respect of other people’s time. Make sure that you bow to your Instructor whenever they enter the mat and try to stay for the whole Karate class; if at all possible.

Cyber Bullying Speech by Junior Instructor at Choe's HapKiDo Karate inCumming GA

Here is a speech given by one of our Junior Instructors. Edmond is a Junior Instructor, a leader at the Kids Martial Arts School in Cumming GA. He gave this speech about Cyber Bullying to his peers at a Choe's HapKiDo Karate Belt Test. Part of being a Junior Instructor is learning to be more confident and being able to speak in front of an audience, and this young man did an awesome job doing just that!!

Cyber Bullying in Suwanee GA

"Cyber Bullying is kids making fun of other kids or making up rumors about other kids on electronic devices like cell phones, computers and tablets.

You may not know that you're cyber bullying someone but you might be.  When you're face to face you can tell when you've hurt someone's feelings because they might be crying or get mad.  But you don't know you're doing those things when you're cyber bulling.  We all know not to be a bully but you may not know that a text message or an email could do the same thing.

We all know that if someone bullies you should go tell a teacher or your mom and dad.  But cyber bulling can be more confusing because you dont know if someone is joking or not.  It's easier to tell when someone is hitting you or yelling at you that you're being bullied, but it's harder when you get a text message or email that is mean.  If you are not sure then you should talk to your teacher or mom and dad.

For example, raise your hand if you think this is bulling --- I run up to you and do a Jump Spinning Heel and take all your money?  Of course that is bullying

Another example except raise your hand if you think this is cyber bullying.  I send you a text message that says "Hey, your stink!"

I could be trying to be mean or trying to be funny.  To make sure it is clear you can type that you are joking.

To make sure you're not a cyber bully you should read your text messages and emails carefuly before you send them. You've got to make sure that nobody could misunderstand you.  If you're trying to be funny make sure to tell that person that you're joking.  If you hurt someone's feelings by accident make sure you appologize.

Cyber Bullying happens a lot.  I hope this information helps you not to be cyber bullied or become a cyber bully."

Concentration and Focus through Martial Arts - Suwanee Karate

With this hectic world that we live in everyone could use a boost of concentration and focus. If you or your children have difficulties concentrating or you would just like to be able to have focus at work, a martial arts or karate class may be exactly what you need. Most people in Cumming don’t realize the true support that practicing a martial arts discipline in Cumming, Georgia, can do for their concentration and exactly how benefit it is for their daily life. For children, it can help them focus better in the classroom, and with regular practice they will be able to better deal with conflicts. Trying a karate class at a martial arts studio in Suwanee, Georgia could give you and your children immense benefit.

How do martial arts such as karate teach concentration and focus?

When you or your children are studying and practicing karate, before all of the punching and kicking the instructor will teach control, mindfulness, and respect. By starting with this and then focusing all of your mental powers on learning the movements and being aware of what they can do to the other people will, you will be forced to concentrate on the present and improve this skill. The physical activity and exhaustion that is part of the regular martial arts training will help to regulate stress and other hormones that are affecting your children’s mental clarity and promote focus. It’s a fun way to get exercise and improve you and your children’s mental concentration.

Improvements in interactions with others and decision making

Another great benefit to regularly practicing martial arts such as karate is that it will increase your children’s confidence and better prepare them to make more level headed decisions under pressure. When people are more calm and confident the interactions with other individuals is freer and less stressful. Learning to focus on the moment with the improved mental concentration will allow you and your children a richer experience when engaging with other people. What would have been a stressful interaction with a bully is dealt with in a non-confrontational way where your children would have the ability to defend themselves if they were in danger.

Learning martial arts such as karate is a great way to get in shape, improve concentration, and boost self-confidence for everyone, but especially kids. If you are around the Suwanne or Cummings, Georgia area there are a couple of great options for your to try a class and see what it’s all about. Choe's HapKiDo Karate Junior Instructor speech about Fire Safety for Children

Here is a speech given by one of our Junior Instructors named Siddharth. Siddharth is a Junior Instructor, a leader at the Kids Martial Arts School in Cumming GA. He gave this speech  about Fire Safety to his peers at a Choe's HapKiDo Karate Belt Test. Part of being a Junior Instructor is learning to be more confident and being able to speak in front of an audience!

Fire safety

Hello. I’m Siddharth. Today I am going to talk about fire safety.

Fires are loud and hot, and the smoke makes it very dark.
Fires hurt and destroy things in your home. You and your family
can help make your home safer.

This is important because we want to keep each other safe. Bad things could happen when we don’t know how to prevent the bad things or what to do when it happens. In this case the bad thing is a fire. Here are a few ways to keep you and your family safe from a fire.

Never keep anything over a lamp like clothes or a blanket
because the heat could cause them to catch fire.Never
heat up metal especially tinfoil because tinfoil is also a
paper and could catch fire and metal heated up could
cause other things to get hot.Don’t stand too close to the
fireplace because you could get burned or your clothes
could catch fire.Don’t play with electrical cords or electrical
sockets because they could shock you which would heat up
your body and your clothes which could catch fire. Those
are some ways to keep safe from fire.

Now if your house were to catch fire here
are ways to keep safe.It is important to get out fast.Don’t take
any time to gather belongings. You should make an escape plan
before a fire starts any way with signals you can make so your
family knows where you are when this might happen. Also you
can know if fire is in a room b feeling the door.If the door is hot
then there is fire in that room. And always stay down in a fire
because smoke rises in a fire and the safest air is low air.
those are some ways to stay safe in a fire.
