HapKiDo Martial Arts Classes in Cumming - More than just another sport activity

Martial Arts Classes in Cumming
Martial Arts Classes in Cumming
My name is Justina, I’ve been working at HapKiDo Martial Arts in Cumming for a while now and I’ve also been working at another place called Lil’ Kickers. Lil’ Kickers is a great place, where I teach little kids how to play soccer.  However, there are some differences from HapKiDo Martial Arts and Lil’ Kickers that I never noticed until I started at HapKiDo Martial Arts.

The major difference is the kids’ behavior.  The children at the HapKiDo Martial Arts in Cumming show respect and etiquette toward the instructors.  They listen almost instantly when you give them some sort of directions.  At HapKiDo we strive for respect and work hard to keep the kids entertained and also learning valuable lessons at the same time.

At Lil’ Kickers the kids behavior is very different.  It takes a lot of effort to get the kids to listen to you.  They don’t respond right away and it takes several attempts to get their attention.  However, working at HapKiDo has helped me to keep the kids at Lil’ Kickers focused but it still can be challenging.

I am not saying Lil’ Kickers is a bad place, because it isn’t.  It’s great for kids to learn soccer and have lots of fun.  However, between these two places the kids are different because of the environment they are in.  At HapKiDo we strive to help your children behave the best they can.  At Lil’ Kickers we don’t focus on that at all.  HapKiDo grasps the big picture, while Lil’ Kickers focuses on that moment. Any child can be taught discipline but a good environment helps.

It has been great seeing the two different types of kids.  It has been great learning experience for me and working at both places has taught me tons.  However, there will always be a difference that sets HapKiDo kids Martial Arts in Cumming apart from the rest of the world.  HapKiDo changes the world, one black belt at a time!

Martial Arts Cumming GA - Choe's HapKiDo Karate 30041 Junior Instructor Speech

Below is a speech given by one of our awesome Junior Instructors and Martial Arts Black Belt.  Tyhelps teach Martial Arts Classes in Cumming GA, and is a young leader at the Kids Martial Arts School. This young man prepared then gave this speech about giving 100% effort all the time to his peers at a Choe's HapKiDo Karate Belt Test held at our Suwanee Karate School. Part of being a Junior Instructor is learning to be more confident and being able to speak in front of an audience, and Ty demonstrated excellent confidence and effort in his awesome martial arts speech.

"Hello my name is Ty Overholt.

I am a 1st degree Black Belt.

Imagine feeling trapped in an unsatisfying existence.  Wasting time doing things you really don't want to do.  Being afraid to express your uniqueness.  Maybe your life was just like mine was.

I started Hapkido 3 1/2yrs ago.  I have learned respect, perseverance, and how to be unique.  Instructor LoPresti has taught me how to change my life by teaching me that it is important to try my best in everything I do.  These are the traits of a black belt and once I learned them they changed my life.

I am a better brother, student and person as a result of learning this one very important trait.

Try your best every single time -

It is important.  It shows respect for my senior Instructor - Instructor LoPresti. Trying my best helps my Dojang be a better Dojang.  I try my best because trying my best pays respect to Grandmaster Choe.

I want my Dojang to be the best and I want to be a role model to the lower belts who are watching everything I do.  Trying my best has changed my life because it has made me a better student both in the Dojang and at regular school.  Here it has made its way into everything I do. Because I have learned this --  I have been successful faster in other areas of my life.  My kicks are faster, my moves better.  I have also become better conditioned and I am able to run farther and faster then I could when I first started Hapkido.

Trying my best I have started to discover who I truly am as a person.  This is the path to a extraordinary life.  I love doing Hapkido and doing Hapkido makes me feel alive.  When I am doing 20 pushups and I am only on number 15 and think I can't do anymore.  Do I quit?  No I keep going and guess what?  I do the 20.  The feeling I get when I complete the 20 is awesome.

I achieve goals I have set thru hard work and perseverance. I have learned that as long as I try 100% in everything I do I can achieve anything in my life that I want to do.

My Life truly has no limits.

For teaching me that I thank my Instructor - Instructor LoPresti

One Black Belt at a Time - Choe's HapKiDo Karate Cumming Ga Success Story

One Black Belt at a Time

By: Justina Condensa

karate classes cumming gaOne day my mom asked me if I would ever consider working at a Martial Arts school. At first, I wasn’t so sure. I didn’t know anything about karate other than what I had seen in the movies. However, the moment I walked into the HapKiDo School it changed my life. It might sound cheesy, but that’s really what happened.

When I started working there and taking classes, I realized something very important. It wasn’t all about beating up your opponent or learning to kick super hard. HapKiDo had a much stronger meaning behind it. HapKiDo has taught me many things that I’ll keep with me for the rest of my life. It taught me confidence, courage and strength. It also taught me to look at my life in an entirely different perspective.

I have learned from HapKiDo that my life is one big journey and I have just started it. I’ll never be able to fully put into words what my HapKiDo experience has done for me, but I do know that HapKiDo is an amazing thing. Maybe it’s the way the kids smile at you. All I know is I’ve never experienced anything like it until now. When I walked through that door my life changed for the better and yours will too. We build strong personalities one day at a time. I feel personally HapKiDo changes the world one black belt at a time and I am proud to be a part of that.

Benefits of being loud in Martial Arts Classes in Cumming GA 30041

Benefits of loud responses in Martial Arts Classes

If you have participated in HapKiDo for any amount of time, surely you have heard the admonition from your instructor. “You are too quiet!” It’s your instructor’s way of encouraging you to respond to their direction not just with, “Yes, Sir,” but with a loud, “Yes, Sir!” You may be wondering, “What’s the big deal? That guy at the other end of the line is loud enough for all of us!!” But maybe the request for a loud response has some purpose behind it.
The first purpose is one that goes without too much saying. Martial arts is a whole system based on respect, mutual respect between teacher and student. It’s also based on trust; trust must be a part of the relationship between teacher and student (see Ten Expanded Ideals of the Hwarang, #7). So the very first reason to respond loudly is because your instructor asked you to. Could there be more to it than that?
30041 Martial Arts

The benefits for the student go way beyond merely strengthening the relationship between teacher and student. Though the pursuit of HapKiDo may seem highly individualistic, every class you attend puts you on the mat with others who are also striving to achieve a goal through training. These individual goals probably share quite a bit in common, say, perhaps, the improvement of one’s quality of health and life through martial arts. That common goal takes individuals in a class and incorporates them into a team. As part of a team, your individual contribution counts. The total amount of team energy depends on your input.

So, why does it matter in HapKiDo whether or not the team or its individuals is loud? Energy! When you think of a relaxing atmosphere where not much needs to be accomplished, you may picture a quiet scene. But then, think of a sporting event where the score is close and the game is almost over. What does the crowd do to encourage their team to finish strong and victorious? They go wild and yell and scream to urge them on. High energy on the HapKiDo mat contributes to kicking higher, punching harder, and sharper, less lazy, more accurate practice of self-defense.

The name HapKiDo means the art of coordinated powers, one of the very first things learned when beginning HapKiDo. What powers or strengths are we coordinating? We are coordinating our inner strength with our outer strength. Our inner strength, ki power, inner energy can be stirred with a strong, out-loud yell. Then that more vibrant inner energy is demonstrated in the way we move in class, or at test time.

30041 Karate
This ability to coordinate our inner strength with our outward actions is especially import as adult who face struggles in the world of our careers, relationships, etc. When we are faced with a difficult situation as an adult, do we have the confidence and internal strength to persevere through the tough time? When you are loud in Martial Arts Class, you are practicing taking the power you have within you and bringing it to the surface.  Even if you are very strong internally, if you do not practice bringing that power out in your actions, when the time comes that you need to utilize your inner strength you may not have the ability to use it.

The higher belts in our HapKiDo family have a responsibility to set the example. You can envision the HapKiDo journey as traveling down a stream of water. The farther downstream you move, the more there is behind you. The upstream water is depending on you to set the course. In setting the example of loud, respectful responses to the instructor, the higher belts demonstrate the expectation, and also reap the benefits of becoming not just a mediocre martial artist, but one who excels.

Stress Management through Martial Arts in Cumming Ga 30041

At Choe's HapKiDo Karate in Cumming we provide a healthy outlet for people to exercise, learn self defense, and relieve stress.  Stress relief for adults is something that all adults in Cumming can benefit from, and Martial Arts Classes are an excellent way to live a happier, healthier less stressful life!  Below is an article by one of the members of our Martial Arts Instructor Team about stress management in Cumming GA.

Cumming GA Martial Arts
Management of stress in my life has been an ongoing campaign since I was 20 years old. At that
time, I was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer. That was the wake up call that I needed to change
some things in my life. Along the way, I have chosen some good techniques and some bad ones as
well. What follows are the techniques I use to keep the stress in my life under control. All of the
techniques do not work for everyone. When you search the Internet, you will find a lot of lists of
techniques on how to cope with your stress. I suggest you start by trying some of the techniques
that sound appealing to you, see if they work, and then expand on those techniques and add others
as well.

1. Nurture Yourself: What I mean by this is find time to do some things you enjoy. Get a
hobby, read, listen to music, be creative, have fun, or even volunteer. Take time out of your
daily grind and hectic schedule to do something that brings a smile to your face and warms
your heart.

Martial Arts Classes 300412. Take Advantage of Mini Relaxations: I have become a master of the power nap. A quick fifteen-minute nap and my system resets, reboots, and refreshes. This may not be the ideal
technique to use at work, but when you get home from a stressful day, a quick power nap
can revitalize you to spend time and focus on the people most important to you: your
family.

3. Identify Sources of Stress: Learn to identify what people, things, or situations are causing
your stress level to increase. Find ways to limit or even eliminate these stressors from you
life.

4. Breathe Easy: When you feel like you are about to blow your stack, STOP, and take several
slow, deep breaths. I usually give an eight count to one breathe in and one breathe out. You
should use deep breathing from your diaphragm at this time. Make sure your stomach is
rising, not just your chest cavity.

5. Address Tensions Head On: When you feel your muscles tensing up, nip it in the bud right
then with some relaxation techniques. A good immediate technique is progressive muscle
relaxation. Starting with your toes, relax every part of your body systematically until you
reach your head. Do not move from one part to the next until that part feels relaxed. Also
try a hot bath, Jacuzzi, massage or the sauna to help relax those tired, tense muscles.

6. Laugh It Off: One of the best ways to deal with stress is to find something funny and
just laugh the stress away. Laughter releases endorphins to improve your mood while
decreasing cortisol and adrenaline, tricking your nervous system into making you happy.

7. Be Mindful: Mindfulness incorporates physical and mental exercises that prevent stress
from becoming a problem in the first place. Yoga and Tai Chi are great programs that
teach this mindfulness. Mindfulness also means being aware that your stress management
techniques are not being detrimental to you while relieving your stress. Make sure you are
not over eating or binge drinking to help deal with your stress.

8. Focus on the Moment: The present is a gift; treat it as such. Take time to notice the things
each day that most people take for granted. Live each day as if it is on purpose.

9. Get Help when Needed: No person is an island. Know your limitations and live within in
them. When you need help, ask for it or learn to delegate when you can.

10. Exercise: I know it is the one word we all hate to hear and the one activity we will come up
with the most excuses to avoid, but exercise everyday even for a minute. If you are a cubicle
clone take a few minutes every hour to stretch something. Every couple of hours, get up
and walk around for a few minutes. These small moments will allow your body to reset and
reboot.

Find what techniques work for you and start reducing the stress in your life. I live my life by two
simple rules now: 1. Don’t sweat the small stuff and 2. It is all small stuff. Life will continue to
move forward whether you are stressing about your situation or dealing with it. So just deal with
it. We make the choice everyday how we are going to live our lives. Choose to live your life in a
positive way and make the world a better place for someone else.

Being a Role Model - Speech by Junior Instructor Aiden at Choe's HapKiDo Martial Arts in Suwanee

Below is a speech given by one of our awesome Junior Instructors. Mr Aiden helps teach Martial Arts Classes in Cumming GA, and is a young leader at the Kids Martial Arts School. This young man prepared then gave this speech about being a good role model to his peers at a Choe's HapKiDo Karate Belt Test held at our Suwanee Karate School. Part of being a Junior Instructor is learning to be more confident and being able to speak in front of an audience, and Aiden demonstrated excellent confidence and maturity.

"Today I want to talk about role models.  A role model could be anyone who inspires someone to do something. Being a role model has responsibilities to do what they are told to do. Many people could be a role model like being an actor or teacher, an Instructor or, like me, a Junior Instructor. It is important to have role models in our world because without role models everyone would have their opinions on something and would do what they like.

A teacher would be a role model because they inspire children to teach and learn to teach.  A good teacher also encourages students to learn.  Students become excited about learning when the teacher is a good role model.

An actor also inspires others because of their great acting.  People who are thinking about going into acting as a career might be motivated when they see a really good performance.

Junior Instructors and Instructors are role models because they teach classes and want others to be like them. To be a good role model, we must get to class on time.  We also must be prepared with our sparring gear.  We need to be in good physical shape.  We also need to study our terms and kicks.  I try to do these things to lead by example.

So a good role model is someone who encourages us to do our very best!  Thanks!"

The importance of Gratitude, inside the Martial Arts School and Everywhere! Choe's HapKiDo Karate in Cumming GA

This month at our Martial Arts Belt Test in Big Greek Georgia we had a Junior Martial Arts Instructor give a speech to the other kids karate students about the importance of gratitude.  She did a fantastic job talking about the many things we have to be grateful for inside the Martial Arts School, at home and within ourselves.  We are very proud of this future HapKiDo Karate Black Belt, she is truly living up to the Martial Arts way of life.

Gratitude speech
Hi! My name is Neha! I am a junior instructor here at Choe’s HapKiDo! Today, I would like to talk about gratitude. Gratitude means to be thankful for something, showing your love or thankfulness towards someone! There are so many ways to be thankful in this world!
Here in the Dojang, you can be thankful for your instructor for teaching you new things every day, your friends for being with you and helping you through hard times, and your parents for driving you and supporting you as you come to class!
Karate Classes Big Creek GA
At school, you can be grateful for all your teachers for helping you learn and be the best as possible and your buddies for helping you as you work harder and harder!
Finally, at home you can be grateful for your parents giving you shelter, clothing and other things to make your home be a better place, your siblings for playing with you and making you laugh! But most of all, be thankful for yourself, you always give 100% in what you do and never give up!
I’m sure there are so many other great things in this world you can be thankful for in your own way!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Martial Arts Classes for all ages - Big Creek GA

Karate Classes Big Creek GA
HapKiDo Martial Arts in Big Creek GA

Residents living in the area of Big Creek Georgia are enjoying the many benefits of training at a local HapKiDo Karate School.

As someone who has been taking martial arts classes for almost my whole life (since I was 6 years old) I can personally attest to the wonderful ways that being a Black Belt Martial Artist has improved my life, and given me many advantages while growing up.  There are many positive aspects that can be gained by practicing martial arts, ranging from physical, mental and emotional benefits.  The great thing about karate classes is that they encompass all aspects of growth into one activity, its not like a gym where you only receive physical training, or even like a school where all the benefit is mental, it is everything all in one place!!  Now that I live by the Big Creek area in South Forsyth Georgia, I wanted to reach out and share my experiences with anyone else who lives in Big Creek and the surrounding areas.

As parents, if you can enroll your child into a Big Creek Kids Karate program at an early age, they will learn how to focus, be respectful and have healthy goals that will give them many advantages on their journey to success!  Beginning Big Creek martial arts classes will empower children to not be affected by peer pressure, and give them the confidence to stand up to bullies.  In addition to these wonderful benefits, martial arts classes in Big Creek teach students to be respectful and caring toward their fellow man.  This feeling will create young adults and teens that show compassion and are willing to help other people.  They will go out of their way to contribute to our society and serve the community.

"Improving our Country and Society, one Martial Arts Black Belt at a time!"

Kids Martial Arts - Big Creek
Kids Karate - Big Creek Georgia
As I became an adult the benefits that I received from taking karate classes became even more apparent.  All the Martial Arts lessons I had learned over the years helped my do better in college, and in the workplace outside of school.  I found that the discipline and focus that I had developed in Kids Karate, then continued to learn with Adult Martial Arts Classes, aided me in being successful in any area of life that I applied these skills to.  As an adult taking Martial Arts Classes, I still appreciate the awesome focus and discipline training I received in Karate, but now the fitness aspect is more appealing.  The classes are fast paced and exciting, I do not even realize that it is a workout...until I feel the muscles I worked the next day :) It keeps me lean and strong, and gives me the physical energy to give 100 percent in everything I do, not just in Karate!

It is because of all the personal benefits that Martial Arts Classes have provided to me that I recommend Karate Classes to everyone I meet living in Big Creek, or anywhere for that matter!   I strongly believe that the Big Creek community can benefit from learning what HapKiDo Karate has to offer, I mean imagine a society that was more respectful, caring, and focused on making the world a better place!  With this goal in mind I would like to personally invite anyone who is interested in trying a class to come check it out!  You and your family wont regret it, and together we can make our community of Big Creek a better place!

Choe's HapKiDo Karate Classes in Cumming GA teach the importance of Cumminity Service - Susan G. Koman Fundraiser

Choe's HapKiDo Karate Junior Instructors
The Junior Instructors at Choe's HapKiDo Martial Arts Academy in Cumming GA are very excited about our yearly fundraiser to support Breast Cancer Awareness by selling T-Shirts and Bracelets and donating the proceeds to the Susan G. Koman Foundation for a Cure.  This speech was given at our belt test in our Cumming location to all of our kids karate students, Adult Martial Artists and the parents and family that was in attendance.  A huge part of being a Martial Artist is serving the community, it is by teaching the students to give back that we can use the skills we learn at the Martial Arts School to make a positive impact on the world!

"Hello,

My name is Siddharth Nambiar and I am a junior instructor at Choe’s HapKido. Today I would like to talk to you about the Susan G. Komen foundation. The Susan G Komen foundation is a fundraiser for breast cancer. Before she married Stan Komen, Susan Goodman was extremely close with her sister, Nancy Goodman. Even after Susan married Stan and Nancy moved to Texas they still remained close. In the 1970’s, at age 33, Susan received terrible news; she was diagnosed with breast cancer. To treat it she received a subcutaneous mastectomy. She thought that her troubles were gone; unfortunately 6 months later it came back. She learned that the cancer had spread to one of her lungs. She continued radiation but the cancer still spread. She became a stage 4 patient, the worst kind. The cancer kept on spreading to all different organs. Susan decided to travel to Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. There she received chemotherapy. Unfortunately, a few years later Susan died. Before she died, she made her sister promise to start a fundraiser to ensure a cure for breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise and soon the Susan G. Komen foundation was built. Choe’s HapKido and their junior instructors are selling bracelets and T-shirts to raise money for the Susan G. Komen foundation. Last year we raised an amazing $700. This year, the 30th anniversary of the organization, we hope that everyone decides to help Susan G. Komen by getting a T-shirt or bracelet. We hope to raise more money than last year. Thank you."
